1. I used to be very, very sporty

It was mainly athletics, which I have countless medals for! I also did lacrosse, Cross country running, tennis, and basketball very briefly (I realised I’m too short for it).

2. I was a Ballgirl for Queens Tennis club

So if you watch tennis you will see those girls in the corners and crouching down by the nets. I was a “Net” – the ones that are crouched down that run across the net to get the balls. I did this for two years and I got to work with the world’s best players during the tournaments, it was awesome. Here’s a pic of me at work, I’m the shortest one – oh and Andy Murray is there too! I also got to keep the uniforms and loads of free Nike shoes and socks and trackies!

3. I had a manic makeup phase… I was obsessed with doing eyeshadow!

I’m not sure at all where this came from, I guess my love for creating things? But here is some of my stuff, I wasn’t very good but I looooved experimenting. Don’t judge!

4. I love rock music.

And that includes screamo! Since I came to this country when I was 10 I got hooked into angry sounding songs… Probably because I was very angry.

Back then I got into Linkin Park, Paramore (when they were a bit more punky), Blink182, Lost Prophets (ew ew ew ew ew ew ew – if you don’t know the story, the lead singer was a pedophile and that honestly broke my heart). I avidly listened to Kerrang! on the TV and I still love many of those bands now, with the addition of some angrier sounding ones.

Architects are my favourite band. Check them out.

5. I learned English from TV

If you don’t already know, I am not originally from London. I moved here from Colombia when I was 10. I was out of school until I turned 11 because I didn’t speak English. So I stayed at home every day for a year (it was hell). The only thing I had was the TV and I guess having computers wasn’t a think back then! Either way, I was 10 and probably wasn’t allowed on it… So I learned English from watching Disney Channel!

I had a bit of an American accent for a few years because of it.

6. I love to doodle

I have an artist’s brain and I am in love with creating. But my actual ability to draw is a different story. I just cannot do it.

I am trying very hard to improve because I enjoy doing it so much, but I can’t imagine it ever getting that good. Sad sad sad.

7. Homelessness is very close to my heart and I wish I could run a homeless shelter.

I have never been homeless or even been close, but this is a topic that really hits home for some reason.

The reality that people out there are struggling to live without a roof over their heads or a bed to go to every night makes my heart sink. I always make sure to talk to as many homeless people as I can.

Please please please, if you see a homeless person give them some money, I don’t normally give money. I will go up to them and ask, “do you need or want anything?” because normally they’re in a place where there’s food or a supermarket. Every time that I’ve asked this they will always say food. I really wish there was more I could do to help.

If I had all the money in the world I would use it all to end homelessness and to get those people back on their feet. Honestly, it hurts my heart that I don’t have the ability to do it right now. But someday I will do more.

So that’s everything, I hope I wasn’t too boring for you…

  1. I learned English in school, but it was a very formal English with not much casual conversation and slang. We also never practiced the oral part, just reading and writing.
Before I moved to Canada, I watched Family Guy episodes in English and thanks to my prior education I was able to pick up on it pretty quick.
    TV is great like that.

  2. Paula |The Value of a Moment

Loved getting to know you better!! A lovely post. I feel the same way about homelessness. I keep “care kits” in my car with little hotel toiletries, a blanket, some granola bars. If I see someone in need, I can give them one. Seeing someone with nowhere to go absolutely breaks my heart! Great post!

  3. Lovely to learn some more things about you and also to learn we have even more in common!! I’m really sporty as well and spent most of my younger years doing Athletics, netball, cross country and tennis! I also definitely share your values in terms of homelessness. It breaks my heart whenever i see someone in that situation and i wish there was more i could do to help them. Great post as always xx
